Ayesa awards the expansion of the terminal 4 y 4s at Madrid Airport
Aena, the airport authority and Management company for Spain’s airport infrastructure, will invest approximately 1.7 billion euros in this project, aiming to expand the capacity of the Madrid facility and transform it into the flagship airport in Europe.
Ayesa, a leading global provider of technology and engineering services, has secured a 10.8 million euro contract to design the expansion of Terminals T4 and T4S at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, Spain’s busiest airport. The airport operator will invest around 1.7 billion euros in transforming its infrastructure into Europe’s premier airport and a cutting-edge logistics hub, allowing airlines to enhance connectivity across Latin America and domestic and European markets.
Ayesa, in a joint venture with leading Madrid-Architects Lamela Studio, has won the contract, bagging responsibilities for engineering services pivotal to executing construction works. This comprehensive deal also involves crafting essential preliminary documents and construction projects. These documents will form the bedrock for the tendering process for the terminals, alongside other vital areas such as commercial spaces, equipment, furniture, and aircraft aprons.
The contract win at Madrid-Barajas airport builds on the success of the ongoing renovation project for Terminals 1, 2, and 3, of which it is responsible. The investment for this project is anticipated to reach 700 million euros and is currently in the drafting stage.
These initiatives are part of a strategy to ramp up Madrid-Barajas Airport’s capacity to 80 million passengers, solidifying its role as an economic driver and a vital air passenger hub.
Madrid-Barajas plays a vital role in the economies of Madrid and Spain as a whole, driving the regional economy and fostering business growth and tourism. According to the Ministry of Transport, the anticipated outcome of these developments is a substantial increase in Madrid-Barajas’ contribution to the Community of Madrid’s GDP, projected to rise from 9.3% to 12%.
Manuel Sauca, Ayesa’s Director of Airports, states, “It represents a significant achievement for Ayesa, as the company now holds authorship and responsibility for drafting the full expansion project for the entire Madrid airport”.
