Ayesa is awarded its first project in the Dominican Republic to provide supervision services for Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro
Ayesa, a global provider of technology and engineering services, has secured its first contract in the Dominican Republic, which will see it provide supervision services for the expansion of Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro.
The contract in question, which has been awarded to the firm by the country’s Office for the Reorganisation of Transportation (OPRET), is worth 2.4 million euros and will last 24 months. It covers various aspects of construction as well as electromechanical installation work, quality assurance and control, and the coordination of contractors.
Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro began operating in 2009 and crosses the city from north to south over 15 kilometres. The project Ayesa will participate in has seen the Dominican Government invest 178 million euros to increase its capacity. As such, the platforms of elevated stations will be made longer and the length of the trains used will be increased.
Around 240,000 passengers each day use the underground system, which has 2 lines and 30 stations, and spans a total of 48.5 kilometres.
This award has consolidated Ayesa’s position as a leader in mass transport systems. In Latin America, the company has been involved in the development of major railway and metro infrastructure, including lines 1 and 2 of the Panamá Metro, Line 1 of the Quito Metro, Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro and RegioTram de Occidente, lines 1, 2 and 4 of the Lima Metro, Line 7 and the extension of Line 3 of the Santiago Metro, and sections 1 and 2 as well as the depot for the Tren Maya.
