25 Years of Pioneering Architectural Excellence
Architecture extends far beyond just creating buildings; it embodies human creativity, civilization, and ingenuity, addressing our evolving needs. It adapts to contemporary demands, designing spaces for living, working, studying, and socializing. Established 25 years ago, Ayesa’s Architecture department has been pivotal in shaping cities with sustainable, state-of-the-art buildings, many of which hold LEED and BREEAM certifications. By expertly blending urban planning, architectural design, and technology, Ayesa has earned a spot among the top architecture firms in the prestigious World Architecture 100 Survey.
Ayesa’s Architecture department was created 25 years ago, and since then it has shaped cities with sustainable, cutting-edge buildings, many of which are LEED and BREEAM certified.
Its ability to seamlessly combine town planning, architectural design and technology has seen the company secure its place amongst the world’s top architecture firms in the prestigious Top World Architecture 100 Survey.
Various buildings throughout Spain bear the Ayesa hallmark. Perhaps the most unique is the new Heineken brewery in Seville. This innovative building is based on the corporative colours of Heineken and Cruzcampo (red and green respectively) and two colours associated with beer: yellow and white.
A few years later the group awarded Ayesa another contract to design and oversee the refurbishment of the original Cruzcampo brewery, now a multipurpose building including a microbrewery, culinary school and coworking space, among other spaces.
One of the Architecture department’s most significant challenges was overseeing the construction of Torre Sevilla, the tallest building in Andalusia and one of Spain’s tallest skyscrapers. Standing 180 meters tall with an additional 17-meter-deep basement, its distinctive oval shape and tapering floors set it apart. The design features a robust central core engineered to withstand strong winds and earthquakes, highlighting its resilience and innovative design.
Two further projects in Andalusia also stand out. The first is the renovation of Casona del Parque, a Neo-Baroque building with modernist features that dates back to 1919 and is now home to Málaga City Hall. Amongst its most characteristic features is the photovoltaic glass roof above its central courtyard.
The second notable project is the Córdoba Combined Court Centre, a contract awarded to Ayesa and the architecture firm Mecano. Together, they provided design and construction management services for the 50,000 m² site, centralizing all judicial functions in one location. The design process focused on incorporating elements that reflect Córdoba’s rich Moorish history, a theme that resonates throughout the city.
The experience gained is now being used by Ayesa to provide design and construction management services for Alicante Combined Court Centre, which occupies a 46,000 m2 site. Both buildings are examples of how court buildings are becoming the architectural masterpieces of the 21st century.
Another iconic project undertaken by the Architecture department is the new Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, construction of which it is currently overseeing. Features that stand out include its retractable pitch and facade with curved, irregular lamellas, which can project images. These are made from fully sustainable, recycled stainless steel and are designed to reduce noise and light pollution, making them an exemplary feature in terms of the circular economy.
Internationally, Ayesa has been involved in various iconic town planning and architectural projects. One of these is the skyscraper Puerta Bosques Renta in Mexico City, which has 46 floors and 454 rental apartments. The building, which Ayesa has provided construction supervision services for, forms part of the AGWA Bosques complex and has been designed based on a series of functional and sustainable criteria. The site also includes a wastewater treatment plant.
Also in Mexico, a few years ago Ayesa provided PMC services for the construction of Arkansas State University’s Querétaro campus. This achievement has made it the first private U.S. university to establish a campus in the country. Additionally, Ayesa has secured several notable international contracts, including providing supervision services for the Panama Convention Center.
The second involved design services for the metro stations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, as well as the walkways that connect them to the terminals and the viaduct. As part of this project, Ayesa also carried out landscaping work for the areas around the stations. The third is the Al Bustan Innovation Business Park, a 65,000 m2 business and shopping development that Ayesa has designed based on a series of sustainable requirements. This led to the site becoming LEED-certified.
