Over the past 57 years, Ayesa’s multidisciplinary teams have successfully delivered significant large-scale projects worldwide while staying true to their guiding principles of “making it happen”. Today, the company is a global provider of technology and engineering services, specializing in over 70 disciplines and with an active presence in 23 countries.

Ayesa’s expansion into various sectors and geographic locations has played a significant role in its growth, ultimately leading to its position as one of the top five Spanish IT companies and one of the 50 largest engineering firms globally.

In 2023, the company comprises over 11,300 specialized professionals united in the shared goal of developing solutions that foster a new, improved, sustainable and digitally-oriented world.

The beginning

1966 –1980

Ayesa was founded in Seville as a small engineering company that was dedicated to employing the latest techniques from the outset. One of its earliest accomplishments was the development of a Mathematical Model of the supply network created for Madrid. Ayesa’s early years were focused on water projects, including the challenging construction of the La Pedrera reservoir, an earth dam located in one of Spain’s most seismic regions, which required exceptional technical expertise.

Our first project abroad

1980-1990

In 1984, Ayesa sought new challenges and took on its first project outside of Spain: the Santa Elena irrigation system in Ecuador. This led to the opening of its first office in Guayaquil. At the same time, Ayesa designed its first F1 circuit in Jerez.

1990-2000

Ayesa, a rising star in the engineering world, took on the Expo 92 construction project, a massive undertaking that left an indelible mark on Seville. The Cristo de la Expiración Bridge (El Cachorro), which the founder of Ayesa designed, has since become a symbol of the city. Seeing new opportunities, Ayesa shifted its focus to developing cutting-edge automation and remote control systems for infrastructure long before the proliferation of the internet, resulting in remarkable business growth. In a pivotal move, the company secured its first contract for high-speed railway systems on the Madrid-Barcelona AVE, establishing itself as the first Andalusian firm to specialize in SAP technology implementation.

2000-2010

Ayesa’s journey to global success has been characterized by two consistent elements: internalization and market growth. In 2003, Ayesa ventured into Mexico and extended its reach to numerous other countries across Europe, Latin America, and Asia. In 2006, Ayesa broadened its industrial engineering portfolio by acquiring MdE, a Catalan company specializing in chemical processes.

2010-2015

Ayesa’s involvement in large-scale international projects includes the construction of Line 2 of the Panama metro and the Atotonilco wastewater treatment plant in Mexico City, which is the world’s largest. The company expanded its portfolio by acquiring Sadiel in 2011, which added over 1,700 IT engineering professionals and a significant portfolio of public sector and utility solutions to the group.

2015-2018

Innovation has become a new driving force for Ayesa. The company is actively engaged in major European research projects to advance technologies like artificial intelligence, data science, and automation. With a significant portfolio of technological projects including big data, electric car fleet management, and network losses, Ayesa celebrates its 50th anniversary and is on a transformational journey towards innovation.

2018-2020

Over the years, Ayesa has cemented its position as one of Spain’s leading technology consulting firms, while its engineering division has grown in new markets such as the Middle East, managing major projects such as the construction of the first high-speed railway linking Delhi to Meerut. Being a trailblazer and a changemaker, Ayesa continues to explore new market segments, such as Industry 4.0.

2020-2022

During the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic, Ayesa’s workforce grew to 4,800 employees and achieved a record turnover of 256 million euros. The company won significant contracts, including the supervision of the Bogotá Metro for 56 million dollars, and other major contracts for utilities and public administrations around the world. In 2021, on its 55th anniversary, Ayesa recorded revenues worth over 500 million euros and entered the prestigious ENR ranking’s TOP 50 of the world’s largest engineering companies. Ayesa is committed to becoming a global provider of technological and engineering services through procurement.

major acquisitions

2022

A&M Capital Europe’s majority investment in Ayesa paved the way for an acquisition strategy that is expanding the company’s presence in the Spanish IT market, (focusing on emerging technologies), and consolidating its position in Anglo-Saxon markets. As a result, Ayesa acquired the Irish engineering firm ByrneLooby, the technology consultancy M2C specializing in data management and process automation technologies, and Ibermática, propelling it to the Top 5 of digital services providers.
