Ayesa wins new contracts for Porto Metro 3.0: Leading the €1 billion metro expansion plan

Ayesa is leading the Design and Environmental Services of four new metro lines, with a total length of 40 km and 38 stations, in the 1 billion euros expansión of the Porto Metro.

Ayesa builds on its successful track record in delivering design and construction management of the Ruby and Yellow lines of the Porto Metro.

Ranked 24th globally in the transportation sector by the ENR Global Sourcebook, Ayesa cements its position as a global leader in transportation infrastructure.

The consortium led by Ayesa, alongside the Portuguese engineering firm GRID, is set to lead the design of the Metro Porto 3.0 expansion plan. In a highly competitive tender process resolved last March, Ayesa secured the contracts for the comprehensive design and environmental services for four new metro lines strategically located in Porto, Gondomar, Trofa, Maia, and Matosinhos. These new lines will support growing populations, enhance public transportation, ease congestion, and promote sustainable urban development for Porto’s thriving city.

This milestone marks a defining moment in Porto Metro’s €1 billion expansion plan, which will add approximately 40 kilometres and 38 new stations to the existing metro network by 2030. This expansion will revolutionise connectivity throughout the Porto metropolitan area, linking key regions and providing enhanced public transportation options for residents and visitors.

These new contracts underscore Ayesa’s proven experience in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects in Portugal, as evidenced by its successful supervision and construction management of the Porto Metro Yellow Line extension, inaugurated on June 28th, (2024), as well as leading the detailed design of the Ruby Line, of which the construction is well underway.
