Challenge

Panama has experienced significant progress across various sectors over recent years, with a particular focus on enhancing the education system to address the growing need for skilled professionals. In response, the Government of Panama established the Specialized Higher Technical Institute (ITSE). This institution is dedicated to providing post-secondary and high school graduates with quality, inclusive professional and technical training geared towards the nation’s economic growth and development.

ITSE offers short-term courses, lasting one to two years, featuring flexible curricula designed to fulfill current professional demands. The institute is on a mission to set the standard for specialized higher education in Panama, driven by a commitment to academic excellence and the comprehensive development of qualified professionals.

The ITSE campus covers 116,000 square meters, housing an array of teaching facilities for various subjects, alongside a main administrative building and a multi-purpose building. The complex is further enhanced by indoor sports facilities and pavilions, making it a comprehensive educational hub.

Collaboration and Supervision

Ayesa led the supervision of the design and construction of the ITSE educational complex, working in close collaboration with Ventura Arquitectos, a local firm noted for its sustainable architectural designs. This collaboration spanned from the project’s inception through to the initial phases of operation.

Expertise and Integrated Approach

A multidisciplinary team from Ayesa, encompassing experts in architecture, structural engineering, MEP installations, special installations, planning, cost control, and LEED management, was instrumental in realizing the ITSE project. This team’s comprehensive approach ensured adherence to the highest standards across all project facets.

Added value

The ITSE complex, designed to be a benchmark in educational and environmental excellence, consists of five buildings tailored to specific educational functions. It achieved LEED Gold certification for New Construction, setting a precedent in the government sector for sustainable design. Key features include green roofs, centralized chilled water facilities for air conditioning, and photovoltaic solar panels, leading to a 15% reduction in energy consumption.

"The outcome has been exceedingly gratifying. Ayesa's exceptional performance in this sector has been instrumental in establishing a benchmark educational center in Panama, setting a new standard of excellence and sustainability".
