Helios investing in innovative technologies to reap rewards in production and resources

Helios is a prominent business group in Spain that specializes in the food industry, particularly in producing jams. With the food sector undergoing significant digital and environmental changes, Helios is pursuing a disruptive project that capitalizes on these trends to gain a competitive advantage. This initiative aims to streamline the company’s value chain while improving production and operational efficiency.

Our team was responsible for implementing a new digital platform for the Helios Group, which utilized SAP S/4HANA to enable excellence and Just-in-Time traceability throughout the supply chain. We also conducted a comprehensive re-engineering of the group’s business processes, including internal logistical flows between the five production centres. To enhance efficiency, we incorporated mathematical algorithms and Machine Learning into the system, enabling predictive maintenance and deterioration prevention. Quality control measures were strictly enforced to ensure real-time traceability of all components, batch management, and optimization of raw material usage.

The implementation of new refrigeration systems has led to impressive results for the company. Despite using the same amount of power, there has been a significant 50% increase in storage capacity and a remarkable 77% increase in production. Additionally, the company has reduced CO2 emissions by almost 30%, which is a notable achievement. The company has also made substantial investments in renewable energy sources such as solar panels, purification plants, and cogeneration plants. Other process improvements include optimizing start-ups and shutdowns, reducing freezing times, and installing temperature control probes in products.
