Ayesa secures major contract for line 3 of the Seville Metro Expansion

Ayesa is responsible for technical assistance services and supervision of the construction of the new section of Line 3 and all its ancillary infrastructure.

The new section will link the Virgen Macarena hospital to Metro Line 4.

The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is vital in making this project more efficient and sustainable.

The Regional Government of Andalusia, through its Department of Development, Land, and Housing, has awarded Ayesa the contract to provide technical coordination and oversight of the first three subsections and other significant infrastructures of Line 3 of the Seville Metro North. The contract, valued at 4.3 million euros, spans a 60-month delivery period.

In partnership with UG21, Ayesa will provide specialised technical support and oversight for Consortium I, overseeing infrastructure along the Northern Technical Branch, including Subsection I (Pino Montano-Los Mares), Subsection II (Los Mares-San Lázaro), and Subsection III (San Lázaro-Macarena), as well as workshops, depots, and other essential facilities. Covering 63% of the North Line 3 route, the Andalusian Regional Government will invest approximately 633 million euros in the project.

A new section adjacent to Virgen Macarena Hospital is currently being developed that will connect with Line 4 of the Seville metro. The scope of work includes developing and designing the necessary civil engineering for this new addition, while ensuring uninterrupted operations on Line 3 during Line 4’s construction.

According to Álvaro Bravo, Head of Project Supervision at Ayesa, says their aim is to provide services that “will guide decision-making, keep the project on schedule and on budget, and deliver a new metro expansion of the highest standards, quality, and reliability. It is crucial for us to contribute to this major infrastructure project that will enhance our city,” he affirms.

As project supervisor and integrator, Ayesa will employ Building Information Modeling (BIM), a digital tool that centralizes all project actions and parameters into a shared database. This approach not only enhances efficiency but also significantly reduces construction time and resources.

Ayesa has a team of multidisciplinary technical experts with decades of experience in transportation infrastructure. Their expertise ensures seamless integration and compatibility between urban development and railway infrastructure, exemplifying engineering excellence. Ayesa has played pivotal roles in the design, supervision, or project management of more than thirty metro lines worldwide, cementing its international reputation in the industry. Notable projects include metros in Quito, Jaipur, Lima, Bogotá, and Delhi.

Works will continue into 2030

Works on Line 3 are expected to continue into 2030. Once completed, the 7.6 km line will connect the northern suburb of Pino Montano-los Mares to an interchange with metro Line 1 and MetroCentro tram route T1 at Prado de San Sebastián. The line will include 12 stations, with one at street level and the rest underground, and will feature an additional 1.3 km technical branch connecting to workshops and depots. Anticipated to transport 13 million passengers annually, this project aligns with Europe’s commitment to sustainable mobility in public transportation.

Ayesa has offices in 23 countries and is one of the top international engineering design firms in the world (#45) and top 30 (#26) in Global Transportation.
