Aqueduct II

Ayesa was responsible for providing external supervisory services for the drafting of the final design, construction, testing and starting the necessary work for the construction and commissioning of the Aqueduct II system, the purpose of which was to supply drinking water to the city of Querétaro and its suburbs.

The project involved the following: 24 km of conveyance pipelines with a nominal capacity of 1.5 m3/s, a water treatment plant with a nominal capacity of 1.8 m3/s, 100 km of gravity pipelines through to the city of Querétaro, storage work and all necessary additional work.

The features of this project which were particularly noteworthy included:

  • A diversion dam on the Moctezuma River, measuring 12.30 m high and 78 m long.
  • A catchment pumping system with 80 mWc vertical pumps (3+1) and two pumping stations (3+1) with a capacity of 2.25 m3/s and 572 mWc. Total pump head: 1050 mWc.
  • Spirally welded 1,200 mm steel conveyance pipelines, spanning 24 km in length.
  • El Doctor drilled tunnel, measuring 2,854 metres in length and with a 6x5 m arched section.
