Automatic hydrological information system for Hidrosur

The Hidrosur SAIH (Automatic Hydrological Data Collection System) Network is a set of remote stations strategically distributed to gather, in real time, information on hydro-meteorological incidents.

The aim is to take the appropriate measures, both in anticipation of forthcoming flood scenarios, as well as in the development of water resources.

The measurements in the stations are made by sensors. These are measurements of hydro-meteorological parameters (water levels, flow rates, rainfall, weather, meteorological stations, gate position sensors, storm detectors, etc ...), as well as parameters necessary to verify the proper functioning and safety of the actual centres.

In particular, the Hidrosur Network covers the Andalusian intra-community basins, such as the Mediterranean basins, the Guadalete, Barbate, Tinto, Odiel, Piedras and Chanza. It extends through the provinces of Huelva, Cadiz, Malaga, Granada and Almería.

 

All the data coming from the stations is transmitted to the Control Centre stationed in Malaga. There, the software tools responsible for collecting, validating, viewing and analysing the information gathered are stored.

It has been equipped with a Decision Support System (SAD), consisting of a set of hydro-meteorological models and computer tools designed to simulate the current and future hydrological behaviour of the basin, whose purpose is to support the management of Operations Systems in flood scenarios to reduce the magnitude of it and advance as much as possible the notices to Civil Protection should floods occur, as to minimise damage.

Ayesa, as part of a Joint Venture with Ofiteco, currently provides the service of Maintenance, Operations and Technological Renewal of the Network. This service ensures the perfect functioning of the SAIH, that is, the conservation and maintenance of all the elements of the system and the exploitation of the generated information.

Regarding the System's running, this must handle its operations and perform the daily monitoring of the data received, its classification and distribution to authorised users, as well as the drafting of reports on operations affecting resources and floods produced.

Amongst other tasks, the following works have been carried out:

  • Preventive and corrective field maintenance of all Remote Stations, associated instrumentation and communication systems
  • Annual campaigns of batteries and rectifiers, adaptation of communication towers and maintenance of civil works
  • Maintenance of the Control Centre, including the maintenance of all equipment, networks, generic and specific software, administration of the database, the operation of all of these and the installed applications, as well as the updating of the software versions.
  • Renewal of equipment due to depletion, obsolescence or discontinuity in manufacturing
