Challenge
The leading construction company (Constructora Los Álamos S.A). was looking to develop a technology solution that can adapt to the everchanging business environment. The company had significant experience in specialised construction for over three decades and it was time to update its IT infrastructure so that it could meet future business goals and remain agile, efficient and competitive in a dynamic business landscape.
Solution
On behalf of the client, Ayesa undertook this comprehensive digital transformation project. The main aim was to migrate the legacy system, originally developed in the 1980s, on IBM AS/400 computers to a modern, versatile platform, namely Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It also included the implementation of two customised vertical solutions developed by Ayesa-Ibermática: IB Building 365 and IB Real Estate 365.
- The first phase involved the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, and migrated all the company’s critical data and processes to the new platform. This enables management to benefit from the flexibility and range of features in a modern business management solution.
- In parallel, Ayesa-Ibermática developed and implemented IB Building 365, a vertical solution tailored to the construction industry. As well as implementing the core module, we also incorporated features from supplementary modules required by the client. These enhancements manage machinery maintenance as well as vital documentation from subcontractors. With the implementation of this tailored solution, the company can now efficiently oversee its construction projects, including cost tracking, resource allocation, and quality monitoring.
- During the project’s second phase, the vertical solution IB Real Estate 365 was implemented. This platform, specifically crafted for real estate companies, enables the management of real estate throughout its entire life cycle. Additionally, it facilitates sales tracking and the generation of comprehensive financial reports.
Benefits
Ayesa’s digital transformation project has yielded significant benefits for the client including:
- Enhanced Operational Efficiency: Automation of manual processes has markedly decreased the time spent on administrative tasks, fostering swift and precise decision-making.
- Improved Team Collaboration: The implementation of two vertical solutions has fostered seamless collaboration among construction and real estate teams. Centralized information provides a comprehensive overview of projects and assets.
- Optimized Resource Utilisation: Effective project and asset management has led to the optimal use of resources, resulting in cost reductions and increased profitability.
- Elevated Customer Experience: The provision of quicker and more personalized services has elevated the customer experience, leading to higher satisfaction and loyalty.
- Heightened Competitiveness: The company’s improved positioning in a dynamic market, facilitated by the digital transformation, enables it to capitalize on emerging business opportunities, thereby enhancing overall competitiveness.
Challenges encountered during the project
While the project achieved remarkable success, it encountered several notable challenges. Firstly, the introduction of new technology and processes in an organisation often necessitates a cultural shift. To address this, the company made significant investments in training and awareness initiatives to ensure that all staff members aligned with the company’s vision and felt at ease with the newly established tools and processes. This involved ongoing communication and feedback.
Secondly, the integration proved to be particularly intricate, demanding meticulous planning and execution to prevent disruptions to operations.
Thirdly, during the transition to a new digital system, concerns about data security and protection against cyberattacks were paramount. This prompted the implementation of advanced security measures to safeguard confidential information.
