Challenge
Delhi, the bustling capital of India, stands as one of the most of the largest cities globally. With a population of 16.8 million recorded in 2011, Delhi is the cultural, political, and economic hub of the nation. As the city experienced rapid growth, there arose a pressing need to expand the metro network. By 2011, Delhi had constructed seven metro lines traversing the city, catering to the transportation needs of its ever-increasing population.
Our work
In 2011, Ayesa was awarded the responsibility of designing and constructing metro line 8 in Delhi. This significant project aimed to connect Janakpuri in the western part of the city to the botanical garden in Noida, covering a distance of 33 kilometers. The metro line included a total of 26 stations, including both elevated and underground stations.
Ayesa’s involvement in this impressive engineering endeavor spanned a range of capabilities, ranging from the comprehensive design of stations, including architecture, structures, and facilities, to the implementation of an efficient ventilation system for the tunnels. The design process incorporated the operational requirements of the facilities, passenger flows, and the seamless integration of the stations into the surrounding landscape. Notably, the Janakpuri West metro station on the line contains India’s tallest escalator with vertical height of 15.6 metres.
Value added
The inauguration of Delhi Metro Line 8 in 2017 has had a remarkable impact on reducing congestion in the city by providing connectivity to previously inaccessible areas that relied solely on land transportation. Notably, Line 8, also known as the Magenta Line, is India’s first driverless metro system.
Currently, Delhi boasts an extensive metro network spanning over 350 kilometers and comprising more than 250 stations. This robust infrastructure significantly improves the city’s transportation system, ensuring smoother mobility for its residents.
Ayesa’s expertise and proven track record in similar projects worldwide played a crucial role in the successful execution of the Delhi metro line. Our involvement in this significant milestone further reinforces our reputation as a trusted partner in the development of efficient and sustainable transportation systems, solidifying our commitment to India’s transportation growth.
