- The contract is part of the Green Riyadh programme, which aims to make the capital a model of sustainability and liveability. It involves landscape architecture and irrigation system design for large city parks covering more than 750,000 m² of green space.
- The initiative will help reduce high urban temperatures, improve air quality, enhance biodiversity and create healthier neighbourhoods.
August 2026. Ayesa Engineering & Architecture, together with Espinàs I Tarrasó, has delivered the design for several large urban parks in the capital of Saudi Arabia, as part of the Green Riyadh programme, one of the world’s largest urban sustainability initiatives.
This project strengthens Ayesa Engineering´s presence in the Middle East, notably in the landscape sector, and is in line with its international growth strategy in large urban transformation and cities programmes.
The Green Riyadh programme, launched in 2019, aims to make the Saudi capital a more liveable and sustainable city. It involves the planting of millions of trees, creating green corridors and integrating nature into all neighbourhoods of the city. As a result, the spaces with reduce the high temperatures that characterise the city, decrease emissions and airborne dust, improve rainwater management and promote healthy lifestyles.
Ayesa Engineering & Architecture is playing a decisive role in this ambitious project, responsible for developing the landscape architecture and irrigation system design projects for some city parks, which are in last stage of construction.
Together, these parks will cover more than 750,000 m² of new green spaces. The spaces will incorporate visitor facilities, shaded walkways, active mobility routes, native plants and elements sensitive to Riyadh’s desert climate, becoming a new defining characteristic of the city´s identity. Each park will have a distinct identity and be integrated into its surroundings.
Ayesa Engineering deployed a multidisciplinary team on this project, providing comprehensive landscape architecture and efficient irrigation system services, covering all phases of the project: topographical studies, site analysis and diagnostics, conceptual, schematic and detailed design, irrigation engineering and landscaping with a focus on water efficiency.
The transformative impact of the Green Riyadh programme is becoming a reality as the parks enter their final construction phase. Some parks are reaching 90% completion, marking a significant and exciting step forward in this landmark urban renewal initiative. Our Director of Buildings & Cities visited one of the parks to oversee the final stage of construction together with RCRC, GR PMO and Contractor representatives.
Antonio Cubero, Director of Buildings and Cities at Ayesa Engineering, commented:
“Green Riyadh is much more than a park programme: it is a global sustainability initiative. Our team is proud to contribute designs that support these fundamental environmental outcomes, while also creating vibrant, people-centred public spaces. We are looking forward to seeing the construction continue to progress as we reach completion”.
This programme is an initiative of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, a Saudi government agency that has succeeded in transforming this desert city into a modern metropolis through major infrastructure and megaprojects. Its current focus includes guiding the capital’s growth in line with the broader objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Recognized as a Top 50 Global Engineering Firm by Engineering News-Record (ENR), Ayesa Engineering has decades of experience partnering with global entities on large-scale sustainable transformations. The company’s pivotal role in the Green Riyadh project is a testament to this leadership, showcasing its capability to deliver complex solutions that merge innovation, sustainability, and an enhanced quality of life for communities worldwide.
