Ibermática Fundazioa boosts the competitiveness of Basque industry by providing its expertise in quantum computing

The foundation is participating in KUBIT, a project that aims to develop cutting-edge quantum solutions.

Ibermática Fundazioa is currently taking part in a new quantum computing project designed to meet the needs of Basque industry. Known as KUBIT (Kuantikaren Berrikuntzarako Ikasketa Teknologikoa), the project is led by the technological research and development centre Tecnalia and supported by the Basque Government’s Elkartek Scheme. Also involved are Ikerlan, Lortek, Tekniker, Mondragon University, the University of the Basque Country and Vicomtech.

In today’s interconnected and fast-paced world, the computational complexity required to address emerging challenges is rapidly outpacing the capabilities of traditional technologies. However, quantum computing holds the promise of developing the next generation of artificial intelligence, offering innovative solutions to these complex problems.

The initiative, launched by the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network, aims to develop a series of quantum solutions designed to meet the needs of industry and solve complex computational problems using the most advanced quantum hardware available. This will ultimately make Basque industry more competitive, contribute to Europe’s technological sovereignty in critical technologies, and ensure the continent has the necessary capabilities when it comes to the AI value chain.

The consortium has also received support from the following organisations: BasQ; the Provincial Government of Biscay and its Bizkaia Quantum Industrial Hub; the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa; the Provincial Government of Álava; the Basque Artificial Intelligence Center (BAIC); the research cluster GAIA; IBM; CAF; Erictel; Euskaltel; Petronor and Telefónica.
