Ayesa rolls out its GridPilot technology to improve urban transport in Europe

The innovative solution harnesses AI to offer V2G services at park-and-ride facilities.

Ayesa, a global supplier of technology and engineering services, is currently participating in Scale-Up. The European R&D project, funded by Horizon 2020, is expected to implement at least 28 new measures designed to improve urban transport in Europe.

One of these measures involves enhancing transport and optimising energy efficiency in cities. To do this, Ayesa has developed an innovative V2G (vehicle-to-grid) solution for park-and-ride facilities. This allows electricity to flow between car batteries and nearby buildings as well as the grid, thereby providing a valuable service to both drivers and the local community.

In order to ensure the effectiveness of the system, issues such as the availability of vehicles, charge time, the price of electricity, the energy demands of buildings and the needs of the grid are carefully taken into account.

Grid Pilot

The pilot initiatives for Scale-Up, which have been allocated almost EUR 10.5 million in funding, have taken place in the centre of three European cities: Turku (Finland), Antwerp (Belgium) and Madrid (Spain). Ayesa has been responsible for the pilot project in Madrid. This has seen it roll out its GridPilot technology, which allows the charging and discharging of electric vehicles to be effectively managed at park-and-ride facilities.

Drivers who use the facilities can now charge their cars and earn money whilst they are parked by providing electricity for the local community.

The AI-based solution implemented in Madrid is able to effectively manage distributed energy resources and predict how much energy users will need as well as how long they will be parked for. It also enables charging and discharging to be controlled in real time, based on the energy demands of buildings and the grid.

The project, which is being led by the City of Antwerp, has 23 partners.
