This project aims to develop sustainable luxury tourism along the western coast of Saudi Arabia, transforming several uninhabited islands into exclusive tourist destinations. The targeted islands, located within a pristine and ecologically sensitive region, require careful and thoughtful development to ensure minimal environmental impact while meeting high standards of luxury.
Ayesa has been appointed as the engineering consultant to evaluate the impact of these developments through modelling, metocean analysis, and other coastal studies. Our role involves collaborating with architects to prepare detailed design reports covering dredging, breakwater construction, and navigational aids. Our comprehensive approach includes concept sketches, coastal modelling (encompassing spectral wave, cross-shore, and longshore stability), and detailed beach design to create a harmonious and luxurious beachfront development.
Ayesa’s highly technical services ensured efficient and effective utility connections and diversions while minimising disruptions and risks throughout the construction phase. We developed a local digital model simulating existing offshore meteorological and oceanographic conditions at the project sites. This model serves as a baseline for comparing existing conditions against various post-construction scenarios, helping us assess potential development opportunities and challenges.
Our advanced models and monitoring techniques study environmental factors such as sea-level rise, tides, erosion, and climate impacts. This knowledge supports the design of sustainable coastal structures and coastlines, ensuring resilience and minimal maintenance requirements.
Ayesa provided an efficient design that incorporates the effects of surrounding environmental conditions using a “work with nature” approach, ensuring minimal maintenance over time and robustness to withstand storm conditions without overdesigning the beach. Our strategic input and studies ensure that the ambitious projects align closely with sustainable and regenerative goals, maintaining a commitment to people and the planet.
