Thus, the purpose of the project was to design the necessary infrastructure to supply the right and left banks of the Guadalquivir River by way of gravity.
This project involved drafting:
- An environmental impact study
- An impact study for the areas belonging to the Natura 2000 network
- A study on endangered flora and fauna
Amongst the unique features of this project were the distribution of habitats and species of interest at a European level, the choice of a construction system using siphons so as not to interfere with the courses of the Guadalquivir River and a passage system for fish.
The aim of the study was to comply with the second phase of the European Directive on environmental assessment and management and with the Noise Act, which establish that from 2012 onwards, those responsible for road infrastructures with an annual average traffic volume of more than 3,000,000 vehicles must create strategic noise maps.
