Panama Aqueduct Project

The aim of this project was to increase the capacity of and improve Panama City's drinking water supply network. To achieve this, the National Council for Sustainable Development (CONADES), a body belonging to the Ministry of the Presidency of the Republic, put out the necessary work to tender in three clusters, the main features of which are described below.

Cluster 1: this involved construction of the Línea de Occidente (Western Line), which has 24.2 km of pipelines with diameters of between 300 mm and 1,500 mm. This cluster also included the Cerro Patacón pumping station.

Cluster 2: this involved the construction of the María Henríquez – Gonzalillo and Oriente II (Eastern II) lines, with 24.8 km of pipelines with diameters of 300 mm, 900 mm and 1,000 mm. It also included the construction of the María Henríquez tank with a total capacity of 12,150 cubic metres. This phase also involved reinforcement and redevelopment of the drinking water supply system for the areas of San Miguelito and Pedregal. For this purpose, 37.5 km of pipelines were installed, with diameters of between 100 and 600 mm, as well as new regulating tanks, and the existing pumping stations were improved.

Cluster 3: this phase involved the design and construction of the Costa del Este – Ciudad Radial line with 12.5 km of pipelines with diameters of between 300 and 600 mm.

Ayesa was responsible for project management and technical supervision for the construction projects and civil works, as well as environmental monitoring during the works.
