The section, 6.5 km, is located in a new High-Speed Line that links Madrid and Extremadura, in the section Talayuela–Cáceres.
The platform of the structure is Adif’s conventional type and supports mixed traffic and a maximum speed of 300 km/h for passengers and 100 km/h for goods.
The most noteworthy features of the section are the viaduct over the Regato del Cuervo (158 m), the viaduct over the Vía de la Plata (114 m) and the viaduct over the Tajo River (1,488 m).
Specifically, the viaduct over the Alcantara reservoir reaches 1,488 metres spread over 26 spans. It is equipped with a central arc measuring 324 metres in span and 90 in height with respect to the average level of the reservoir, thus being considered a worldwide reference point. At the time of its construction, it exceeded the largest span ever built in Spain, an honour now held by the one in Almonte, measuring 384 metres.
Theese images were taken on the 23rd of March, when 48 trucks loaded with heavy goods crossed the viaduct to undertake load testing. The supervision of the process was undertaken by Ayesa.
