Ayesa Engineering oversees the design and construction of Mexico´s new rail line
The €20 million project covers two sections totalling more than 140 kilometres.
The new national rail network will serve millions of passengers, promote sustainable mobility, and boost intercity connectivity.
Ayesa Engineering continues to expand its track record in managing major rail infrastructure projects after being awarded two new contracts in Mexico. The Rail Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) has entrusted the company with the supervision of two sections of the country´s new national passenger rail network in a project totalling around €20 million, marking a strategic infrastructure initiative with significant social and economic impact.
The Federal Government´s goal is to connect Mexico City with Nuevo Laredo. The first phase includes the development of four main corridors: Mexico City-Pachuca, Mexico City-Querétaro, Querétaro-Irapuato, and, Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo, spanning a total of 797km.
Ayesa will participate in two of these projects as part of a joint venture with Cal y Mayor Asociados. The first involves a 30.3km section of the Querétaro-Irapuato line, between Querétaro and Apaseo El Grande, valued at €8 million and scheduled for 27 months. The second covers a 111km stretch of the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo line, between Saltillo and Santa Cataria, worth €10.6 million, and to be completed in 34 months.
The works include the construction of viaducts, tunnels, vehicle crossings and drainage systems.
For both contracts, the consortium will be responsible for supervising, monitoring, and controlling the design and construction process, ensuring full compliance with technical, regulatory, environmental and safety requirements.
Strategic rail corridors
The Querétaro–Irapuato and Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo passenger lines will each operate on double-track routes of 108.2 km and 395.7 km, respectively, with a maximum speed of 200 km/h. Both will be directly integrated into the national passenger rail network linking Mexico City and Nuevo Laredo, scheduled to open in 2028.
This infrastructure will benefit millions of citizens, promote sustainable mobility, reduce travel times, and enhance intercity connectivity.
A second expansion phase is planned, adding 2,600 kilometres of new rail lines, yet to be tendered, that will connect routes such as Irapuato–Guadalajara, Querétaro–San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí–Saltillo, and Mazatlán–Los Mochis.
According to Manuel González Villalobos, Ayesa’s Country Manager in Mexico, “With these new contracts, Ayesa strengthens its experience in rail infrastructure projects across Latin America, consolidating its position as one of the key players in the modernization of Mexico’s transport system”.
