Ayesa Digital supports the transformation of Canal de Isabel II with a pioneering commercial system based on SAP technology

The €51-million project stands at the international forefront for its scope and the use of SAP S/4HANA technology in a SaaS model, leveraging cloud architecture and the water sector’s most innovative solutions.

Ayesa Digital is advancing the implementation of the YARA commercial system for Canal de Isabel II under a contract in execution since 2023. This ambitious project, carried out through a joint venture with Atos IT Solutions and valued at €51 million, is positioned at the international cutting edge due to its scope and its use of SAP S/4HANA technology in SaaS mode, with cloud architecture and the most innovative solutions in the water industry.

The commercial management of Canal de Isabel II covers a wide array of key processes: multichannel customer service, contracting, inspections, technical execution of installations, meter reading, billing, collection management, disconnections and reconnections, claims management, as well as the exploitation of large volumes of data through advanced information systems. The YARA project will modernize and progressively digitalize this entire ecosystem, ensuring more personalized, autonomous, and proactive service for the more than six million users of the integral water cycle in the Madrid region.

Within the YARA project, the Remote Meter Reading system constitutes one of the strategic pillars of Canal de Isabel II’s digital transformation. It is currently in a full deployment phase, rolling out smart meters and enhancing functionalities and services associated with remote measurement data captured by existing systems. The new solution will be based on Azure Databricks and will enable large-scale, real-time data processing, advanced analytics capabilities, engineering metrics reporting, billing based on remotely measured consumption, and customer-facing consumption alerts.

As a result, Remote Meter Reading will strengthen the efficient management of water resources and improve customer service, establishing itself as a key component of Canal de Isabel II’s corporate application landscape.

This pioneering system in the water sector leverages the most innovative utilities components of SAP S/4HANA as its core, enabling the application of market best practices in self-service, personalized attention, user autonomy, and demand anticipation.

Under this four-year contract, extendable for an additional year, the joint venture provides the base licenses, executes the full data migration from current systems, trains Canal staff, and delivers maintenance and operational services for infrastructures and applications for six months.

“Ayesa is a global benchmark—in Spain and Latin America—in the implementation of systems that support commercial processes for electricity, gas and water utilities. We bring extensive know-how and best practices to our clients, working with them as a true technological and strategic partner in the evolution, improvement and transformation of their business processes”, says Pablo Ruiz, Energy & Utilities Operations Director at Ayesa.
