Bioethanol pilor plant
Model for research
Villarejo de Orbigo (León), Spain
Status: finished
The objective of the process plant is to obtain ethanol (bio ethanol) through the fermentation of raw materials of agricultural origin such as beetroot, cereal and other sources of sugar like Jerusalem artichoke or chicory, and purify it until an adequate quality for future dehydration is reached, in order to use it as automotive fuel.

This project is related to the research on the aforementioned agricultural raw materials and the optimization of the parameters of the bio ethanol production process.
The plant was designed with a minimum production capacity of 500 l/day of ethanol, obtaining also by-products like centrifugal decantation stillage sludge and syrup produced in the evaporation of the stillage, which are valuable products when used as animal feed.
Based on our knowledge on fermentation process in yeast and on bio ethanol production technology, we developed our own concept of plant. Obtaining the results that we had predicted was a great success.
