Intermodal Station

A transportation neuralgic center

El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain

Intermodal station of El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona.

Works commenced: 2010

The upcoming intermodal station of Baix Llobregat will become the railroad location of west Barcelona, where the AVE, regional trains, outskirts and airport shuttle converge, as well as two subway lines and many other bus lines.

Ayesa’s proposal for the intermodal station of Baix Llobregat, in collaboration with architects César Portela, Antonio Barrionuevo, Julia Molino, and Eva Monte, was the winner in an Ideas Contest in which prestigious architects took part.

Its location in Prat de Llobregat’s downtown will serve as a link with the development sectors in the northern part of the city.

The proposal’s intermodal character will be presented by three new elements that will be constructed over the recent burying of the lines, the new station, a parking lot, and the highway-railroad exchange plaza.

The proposal’s emblematic main focus is the new passengers building with an area of 13.000 m². The elliptic shaped main hall will connect the platforms and will allow the linkage of the subway lines, the new 23.000 m² area parking lot which will be crowned with the exchange plaza with 18.000 m² urbanized for buses, taxi cabs, and kiss and ride.
